Shane Robinson
Chief Pilot
Our chief pilot, Shane Robinson, has nearly two thousand hours of piloting experience in both hot air and gas balloons. He has flown in more than forty states in the US, throughout Canada, Mexico, Europe, Africa, and in Puerto Rico. In 1996, he won the National Gas Balloon Race. In 1999, he flew 1,657 miles-- from Denver to Vermont and overflew Lake Michigan, Lake Huron, and Lake Ontario enroute. In 2002, he represented the US in the prestigious Coupe Aeronautique Gordon Bennett in France. He has flown corporate balloons for Pontiac, GMC, Mr.Goodwrench, AC Delco, Touchstone Energy Cooperatives, Wonder Bread, Wal-Mart, and others. Since 1999, he has owned and operated the Bass Pro Shops Balloon. Since 1996, he has coordinated balloon activities at The World Free Fall Convention -- the largest skydiving event in the world-- and has more experience dropping skydivers from a balloon than anyone.
While Shane serves as the primary pilot, additional pilots are chosen for their experience, flight record, and professional performance. Cheri White, past Women's National Champion from Austin, Texas and Chris "Wonder Boy" Sabia from Kansas City, lend their expertise.
